BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BTO

According to the oldest data avaliable, Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1889.
Since its foundation, Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce has added considerably to the economy of Balıkesir and the country and has taken an important part in the process of development of commerce and industry in a planned manner in the Balıkesir.

Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce has also performed a number of important duties in the establishment of Balıkesir Organized Industrial Zone and has contributed to the inilation of many projects in the city. While always approaching the problems of the country and the region very sensitively. Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce has had a lead role in the establishment of varlous business centres, cooperatives the Association of Consumers and Quality.

Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce is proud of being the Chamber in Turkey to be granted the TSE ISO 9000:2000 Certificate of Quality Guarantee System.

Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce has been a great support to socio-cultural events as well.

Within this context, it pioneered the establishment of the University of Balıkesir and its Facultie of Economics, Administrative Sciences and technical high schools, as well as granting scholarships Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce has also played an active role in the encouragement of cooperation between the university and industry and took part in the commission formed within the context of the industrial Training Project in the University of Balıkesir that was supported by the Higher Education Board .

Starting its activities in a small building during the first years of the organization, Balıkesir Chamber of Commerce with its 6.000 members and experienced administrators and staff, today is making every endeavour to create a more developed Balıkesir.
